Dirt Mask
2019

The Dirt Mask represents the inevitability of death. Petals of the poisonous flame lily, Gloriosa Superba, emerge stemless and unexpectedly from fertile peat soil. The golden adventitious roots create the mask’s circulatory and nervous systems. The feminized face has wide, flared nostrils, full lips, and a slight smile.

The wearer dons the mask by clenching their teeth on a modernized bite stick. The mask then appears to float in front of the face without a visible connection to its wearer.

The Dirt Mask was sculpted digitally and ‘printed’ out of a plant-based bio-plastic.
